JANUARY NEWSLETTER
What is Blue Monday?

January 17th has been coined "Blue Monday" due to it supposedly being the saddest day of the year. Many find themselves in crippling chilly weather, post Christmas bills, and realizing their new year's resolutions have already been broken. Since the debut of this concept, debates are on-going. Dr. Dean Burnett states "There is no such thing as a 24-hour depression; however, there is a condition known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)". SAD is a form of depression that may manifest during certain seasons. This condition does not just last one day according to Dr. Burnett, but at this point of the winter months people may seem more irritable and having feelings of worthlessness. It may affect up to as many as 10 million Americans.
Ways to avoid the Monday Blue:

1. Focus on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

January 17th, 2022 also marks the day we honor the memory of a strong leader. Dr. King advocated for social change through non-violent means. The inspirational leader gives us a more positive focus for the day. Here are some famous quotes we can remember:

2. Plan your next vacation.

Studies have shown that looking forward to something creates a hopeful spirit. Planning for the future can also help with creating conversation as events make great talking points with others. The dead of winter is the perfect time to set up your next getaway, so why not start planning on January 17th?

3. Host a Dinner

Be intentional about making Blue Monday a great day! Host an "anti-Blue Monday" by getting together with family and/or friends. Play an interactive game, catch up on exciting news, and make it even better by having a blue theme.
